This policy explains how Nippon Shears Pty Ltd ACN 641 863 578 acting as trustee for The Adams Scissor Trust ABN 68 501 252 754, trading as Black Hair Scissors (we, us) handles personal information collected through www.blackhairscissors.com. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Our Terms of Sale cover privacy in section 20.

What we collect

When you order:

• your name and email address;
• the recipient's name and phone number;
• the delivery address;
• the products and delivery option you choose;
• your order history with us.

We do not ask for a billing address.

When you pay: payment happens in PayPal's window. PayPal tells us whether the payment succeeded and gives us a payment reference, which we use to match and refund payments. We do not receive or store your card details.

When you contact us: the site has no forms. We receive only the emails you send us.

When you save a comparison shortlist: the listed options and quantities you save stay in your browser. The shortlist holds no name, email, address or payment details, and it is not sent to us.

When you visit: the site's pages use your device's own fonts and load no analytics or advertising scripts. Product photographs load from an external image host (cdn.shopify.com), which receives your IP address and browser details when it serves them. Our hosting provider receives your IP address and browser details as part of normal web requests. At checkout, PayPal's payment window and script load from PayPal.

How we use it

We use your information to:

• process, deliver and support your order;
• send your order confirmation and receipt, dispatch notices and refund notices;
• handle returns, faults and questions;
• prevent fraud;
• meet our tax and legal record-keeping obligations.

We send marketing email only if you have agreed to receive it, and every marketing email includes a way to unsubscribe.

Who we share it with

We share only what each service needs to do its part:

• Payment: PayPal.
• Hosting: our website hosting provider.
• Product photographs: the external image host that serves them. It receives the details of a normal web request, not your order.
• Order records: our order database provider.
• Email: our email delivery provider, for order emails.
• Delivery: the carrier that delivers your parcel. It receives the recipient's name, address and phone number.

We do not sell personal information.

Where your information is processed

Some of these providers store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States. This includes PayPal and our hosting, database and email providers.

Security and retention

The site and checkout use encrypted (HTTPS) connections. We keep order records for as long as needed to support your order and meet tax and other legal obligations, then delete or de-identify them.

Your rights

You can:

• ask what personal information we hold about you;
• request access to it, or correction of it;
• ask how we use it;
• make a privacy complaint.

If you are a resident of California, you have the right to access the Personal Information we hold about you (also known as the ‘Right to Know’), to port it to a new service, and to ask that your Personal Information be corrected, updated, or erased. If you would like to designate an authorized agent to submit these requests on your behalf, please contact us at the address below.

You can browse the site without telling us who you are. To place an order, we need the details above.

To make a request or a complaint, email hello@japanscissors.com.au with "Privacy" in the subject. We will reply within a reasonable time.

If you are not satisfied with our response to your complaint, you have the right to lodge your complaint with the relevant data protection authority.

Cookies and browser storage

The site uses only the browser storage it needs. It sets no analytics or advertising cookies.

• Comparison shortlist (blackhair-comparison-v1, in your browser's local storage): keeps the listed options and quantities you save to compare. It holds no name, email, address or payment details.
• PayPal may set its own cookies in the PayPal payment window.

Use Clear comparison on your shortlist to empty it. You can also clear or block cookies and site storage in your browser settings. If you do, your shortlist may empty or checkout may not complete.
